Struggle (loading phase - effortful engagement); Release (letting go - incubation period); Flow (the peak state - coherence achieved); Recovery (integration and rest - essential, not optional). Each phase is necessary; skipping recovery leads to burnout. The cycle maps to the Somatic Triad: Struggle = Movement, Release = Stillness, Flow = Breath (automatic, bridged), Recovery = return to Movement. See: 17 Movement Medicine, 19 Silent Vibrations, 21 Breath as Bridge, 31 The Normal Map

Fractal

A geometric pattern that repeats at every scale—zoom in or out and you find the same structure. In The Normal Map, fractal describes how coherence operates: the same pattern of alignment (3D/4D/5D, or Mind/Field/Soul) appears at individual, relational, and collective scales. Your personal practice of coherence isn’t separate from collective coherence—it’s the same pattern at a different magnification. The Triple-Nested Triad is fractal: Expression × Reception × Resonance appears at the 333 scale, the 22 scale, and the individual scale. This is why individual inner work matters globally: you’re not adding a drop to an ocean, you’re expressing a holographic fragment that contains the whole pattern. See: 11 Sacred Geometry - The Visual Language of Coherence, 31 The Normal Map

Freeze Response

Dorsal vagal activation when fight or flight is impossible. Immobilization, dissociation, time distortion, numbness. One of four trauma responses. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Freeze and Flee

The third of Sue Johnson’s three Demon Dialogues. Both partners have given up, retreating into mutual dorsal vagal shutdown. Hopelessness, disconnection, and numbness replace conflict. Nervous system state: mutual dorsal vagal activation, flat affect, minimal eye contact, emotional deadness. Often follows prolonged cycles of the other two dialogues. The most dangerous pattern for relationship survival. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing, 25 Love as the Root Frequency, 33 Practical Protocols

Softening Moment

The pivotal moment in EFT when a defended partner’s vulnerability breaks through protective armor. Signs include: voice breaking, eyes tearing, getting quiet, body releasing tension. The “hinge point” where real repair becomes possible. When softening occurs, the nervous system shifts from sympathetic/dorsal (defense) to ventral vagal (connection). Facilitator response: slow down, protect the moment, witness without rushing. The softening is not the end - it’s where the real work begins. See: 27 Collective Consciousness & The Epochal Shift, 33 Practical Protocols

Peter Levine’s approach to trauma healing that focuses on body sensation rather than narrative. Based on understanding how animals discharge trauma energy. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Somatic Triad

The three-element practical framework of The Normal Map: Movement + Stillness + Breath. The unifying spine connecting all chapters. At individual scale: body practices. At 333 scale: Expression + Reception + Resonance. See: All Chapters

Soul

The eternal, transcendent aspect of individual being. The 5D self that exists beyond time and physical incarnation. Source of purpose, wisdom, and unconditional love. See: 7 The Multidimensional Human

Spiritual Bypass

Using spiritual practices to avoid dealing with emotional wounds or developmental tasks. Transcendence without integration. The opposite of coherent transcendence. See: 29 Transcendence & The Mystic Path

Stillness (Somatic Triad Element)

One of three elements of the Somatic Triad. Represents the receptive, yin, 4D-accessing element. At the 333 scale, corresponds to Reception/Eros. See: All Chapters

Sympathetic Nervous System

The “fight or flight” branch of the autonomic nervous system. Mobilizes body for action through adrenaline and cortisol release. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Synchronization

The alignment of rhythms between systems. Brain-to-brain coupling, heart rhythm synchronization, respiratory synchrony - the physiological basis of resonance. See: 9 The Language of Coherence, 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

T

Theta Waves

Brainwave frequency range (4-8 Hz) associated with deep meditation, dreamlike states, and subconscious access. Represents 4D consciousness. See: 7 The Multidimensional Human, 19 Silent Vibrations

Three Selves

The 3D, 4D, and 5D aspects of individual consciousness. Mind/Ego, Subconscious/Field, and Soul/Higher Self. See: 7 The Multidimensional Human

Transcendence

/ The movement from limited to expanded consciousness. Authentic transcendence includes relationship and integration rather than bypassing them. See: 29 Transcendence & The Mystic Path

Transient Hypofrontality

The temporary down-regulation of prefrontal cortex activity that occurs during flow states. First proposed by Arne Dietrich (2003), refined by Steven Kotler. When the inner critic (dorsolateral prefrontal cortex) quiets, self-doubt disappears, time distortion occurs, and access to 4D/5D consciousness becomes easier. Not permanent deactivation - “transient” is key. Achieved through challenge engagement, rhythmic movement, or deep stillness. The neurological mechanism connecting flow to transcendent experience. See: 19 Silent Vibrations, 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Trauma

The lasting impact of overwhelming experience on the nervous system. Stored in the body (4D field) and affects perception, behavior, and capacity for connection. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Triple-Nested Triad Model

The complete framework integrating vertical and horizontal dimensions of consciousness. Three nested scales: 1×1×1 (Mind × Field × Soul), 22×22×22 (Individual × Relational × Collective), 333×333×333 (Expression × Reception × Resonance). See: 9 The Language of Coherence, 31 The Normal Map

Tummo

/ Tibetan inner heat practice. Research shows practitioners can raise core body temperature 1.9°C even with brief training. Advanced practice requiring instruction. See: 21 Breath as Bridge

U

Ubuntu

African philosophy meaning “I am because we are.” Expresses relational ontology - individual existence inseparable from collective existence. See: 9 The Language of Coherence

Unity Consciousness

The experience of oneness with all existence. The goal of mystical traditions: enlightenment, samadhi, nirvana. 5D awareness as default state rather than peak experience. See: 27 Collective Consciousness & The Epochal Shift, 29 Transcendence & The Mystic Path

V

Vagal Tone

The activity level of the vagus nerve. Higher vagal tone indicates greater parasympathetic activity, stress resilience, and emotional regulation capacity. Measurable via HRV. See: 17 Movement Medicine, 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Vagus Nerve

The longest cranial nerve, connecting brainstem to major organs. Primary component of parasympathetic nervous system. 90% of fibers are afferent (body to brain). See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Ventral Vagal State

Polyvagal theory term for the social engagement system. Calm, connected, present. Facial expressions and prosody regulated. The state from which coherent communication is possible. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Vesica Piscis

/ Almond-shaped intersection of two overlapping circles. Represents union of opposites, the portal between dimensions, the space where relationship happens. See: 11 Sacred Geometry - The Visual Language of Coherence, 25 Love as the Root Frequency

Vibration (Third Hermetic Principle)

“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.” All matter and consciousness exists as vibration. Note: While rooted in physics, the specific Hermetic formulation is more recent (18th century). See: 15 The Hermetic Principles

VO2 Max

Maximum oxygen uptake during exercise. Top longevity predictor - JAMA study of 122,007 people shows 50-80% mortality reduction in highest vs. lowest quintiles. See: 17 Movement Medicine

W

Wim Hof Method

Breathwork and cold exposure protocol developed by Wim Hof. 2014 study showed immune modulation (increased IL-10, decreased TNF-alpha). Requires proper training and has contraindications. See: 21 Breath as Bridge

Window of Tolerance

Dan Siegel’s term for the zone of arousal where a person can function effectively. Outside this window (too high = hyperarousal; too low = hypoarousal), capacity for integration decreases. See: 23 Nervous System Coherence & Somatic Healing

Witness Consciousness

The awareness that observes experience without identification. The “I AM” that exists beyond thoughts, feelings, and sensations. 5D perspective accessible through meditation. See: 29 Transcendence & The Mystic Path

Y

Yin/Yang

Chinese concept of complementary opposites. Yin = receptive, feminine, dark, inward. Yang = active, masculine, light, outward. Balance required for health and wholeness. See: 15 The Hermetic Principles

Z

Zone (Flow State)

Colloquial term for the flow state. “Being in the zone” = complete absorption in activity. See: Flow State, Flow Cycle
